Consistency with fitness is not about motivation, but about routine. I have good days, I have bad days. Good days feel fresh, strong, and optimistic. Bad days feel clumsy, tired, and mental resistance. But the purpose is not to do it when I feel good, but to do it when I feel bad. So, I am not trying to psyche myself up or trying to find motivation, I am just trying to do the first movement. All I have to do is step into the position, and do one rep.
Then I do the second, and the third, and so on. So the key is to make the process as simple as possible. If I have too many options, and too many complicated movements to do, I will not do it. So I select a few movements and repeat them over and over, so my body gets used to them. I am not overthinking, I just do them. After a while, it becomes easier to start than to procrastinate. Another thing that I was doing wrong, is that I was expecting myself to give 100% every single time.
When you push yourself too much every single day, sooner or later you will feel burned out, and you will not want to train at all. I allow myself to have easy days. Sometimes I just control the movement without using full capacity. It helps me to keep the chain going. Another thing that helps, is if I commit to 15 min of easy training. I do some mobility warm up, I do a few easy reps, and then I finish with a short hold or stretch that reinforces stability.
Even on the worst day, I can do that, and it helps me to keep the chain going. If my mind starts wandering, I focus on something very specific. Sometimes I focus only on my breath, sometimes I focus only on keeping my back straight, sometimes I focus only on slowing down the reps. All of a sudden it stops being a chore, but becomes a process of mastering the details. And all those tiny adjustments I make on a bad day, help me to improve on a good day.
Consistency builds quietly through repetition, not intensity. You build it by showing up every day and doing your minimum, not maximum. If you manage to do it, it will help you both physically and mentally. It will make you stronger, and help you to build the chain.
